Huawei Sells 1.2 Million Mobile Broadband Modems to Telenor
Huawei says that it has inked a contract with Telenor Group to supply 1.2 million mobile broadband modems over the coming 12 months for Telenor's 13 operating companies. Earlier this month, Telenor has also signed a contract with zte for "up to" two million mobile broadband modems. more

ZTE Tops China Mobile 3G Contract
zte is reported to have picked up just over a third of the latest TD-SCDMA tender from China Mobile, reports the Interfax news agency. Huawei won 22% of the contract, while Datang Telecom was awarded 16%. Other equipment manufacturers share the remainder, every company to have 5-6%. more

ZTE Building CDMA Network in Madagascar
zte has announced that it is rolling out an all-IP mobile phone and data network for Madamobil, a new mobile operator in Madagascar. The network rollout is currently in its final stages with zte supplying the core equipment and the base stations for the first phase of the network construction. Madamobil, which will offer services under the "Life" brand, is the only mobile broadband network operation in Madagascar operating on CDMA 2000 1X/EVDO. more

ZTE Wins "Major" 3G Network Contract in Uzbekistan
zte says that it has won a contract to install a GSM /UMTS network for Uzbekistan operator Ucell. zte will manage the construction and expansion of a 2G/3G network including replacement of the existing 2G equipment. The Uzbekistan telecoms market is expanding rapidly, helped by the conversion to digital exchanges which are expected to be completed in 2010. more

Zimbabwean Operator Starts Network Expansion
Econet Wireless Zimbabwe says that it has started receiving shipment of equipment worth US$200 million from Sweden and China which, when installed, will avert the shortages of lines. The consignment, comprising base station and core network equipment, is expected to be fully installed by the end of the month. more

ZTE Deploying a 3G Network in East Timor
China's zte is working with Timor-Leste (East Timor) based mobile network, Timor Telecom to deploy a WCDMA based network. Citing a statement from the Chinese embassy, MacauHub reported that the contract was actually signed last May and the network deployment should be completed next August. more

ZTE and Qualcomm Collaborate to Boost UMTS System Performance
Qualcomm and zte have announced a collaboration to integrate Qualcomm's Uplink Interference Cancellation (ULIC) technology into zte's next-generation UMTS base station products. Qualcomm sasy that this can boost operators UMTS data throughput by up to 60 percent and deliver a user experience that is comparable to LTE in a similar channel bandwidth. The technology also enables UMTS operators to increase voice capacity by up to 45 percent. more

zte has won a contract to build a 3G core network for German mobile virtual network enabler (MVNE), Vistream. zte says that it will provide a series of solutions to Vistream for a network capacity of 500,000 subscribers, including an all-IP platform, ATCA (Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture) hardware infrastructure and NGHLR (Next Generation Home Location Register) systems to construct a large a simplified GSM/UMTS core network. more

ZTE Gets Positive Outlook from Debt Ratings Agency
Debt ratings agency, Fitch has assigned a Positive Outlook to zte's Long-term foreign and local currency Issuer Default Ratings (IDRs), and affirmed them at 'BB+'. Fitch said that the Positive Outlook reflects the company's increased revenue scale driven by strong growth, positive free cash flow generation in 2008 and lower financial leverage. more
