Consolidation in Romania as Cosmote buys Zapp

Greece's Cosmote Group confirmed earlier rumours and has signed a deal to buy Romania's Telemobil (zapp) for a total consideration of around EUR205 million. The consideration for the shares of zapp is estimated at approximately EUR61 million  (equity value), while Cosmote will also assume the debt and other liabilities of zapp, mainly concerning 3G and CDMA network roll out, estimated at approximately EUR 146 million.  more

Romanian Operator Rolls Out WCDMA Coverage to 15 Cities

Romanian operator, zapp says that it has completed its WCDMA network roll out in fifteen of the nineteen cities that will benefit from 3G coverage by end of June 2008: Brasov, Braila, Sibiu, Arad, Bacau, Satu Mare, Baia Mare, Constanta, Craiova, Ploiesti, Targu Mures, Cluj Napoca, Timisoara, Galati and Pitesti.  more

Romanian CDMA Operator, Zapp Plans UMTS Rollout

During a press conference held last month, Chris Bataillard, CEO of Romania's zapp announced that their 2100 Mhz network will be functional by June 30th, providing mobile high-speed data services based on ZTEÃ's UMTS/HSDPA solutions.  more
