Myanmar Boosts CDMA Network Capacity

The authorities in Burma (Myanmar) are reported to be planning to boost the CDMA network capacity by 150,000 subscribers in the two main cities of yangon and Mandalay. According to the Xinhua news agency, the country had just over 200,000 CDMA subscribers at the end of last year, compared to 375,800 GSM subscribers.  more

Burma Doubling GSM Capacity

Myanmar's Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) says that it is planning to increase GSM network capacity by some 80,000 lines in two major cities this year. The mobile phones will be added in yangon and Mandalay for the current fiscal year 2006-07, the Flower News newspaper reported, citing state owned MPT officials. more

GSM goes live in Myanmar

Myanmar (Burma) is reported to have begun a GSM network, to compliment its existing CDMA system, according to a report in the Myanmar Times. Myanma Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) told the newspaper that the network went live in yangon and Mandalay with a capacity for 70,000 and 30,000 subscriber lines respectively. more

Myanmar Network Investment Planned

The government of Myanmar, formerly Burma, intends to spend US$144 million on a GSM network, which should go live in the cities of yangon and Mandalay in May. A further six towns will be covered by the end of the year, and the network expects to acquire 130,000 subscribers this year." more
