Sony Ericsson Enters the South Korean Market

Sony Ericsson is to enter the South Korean market for the first time - as it prepares to offer its Windows Mobile based xperia X1 smartphone on SK Telecom's mobile network. Economic Downturn Sparked a Battle for 3rd Place in Mobile Phone Market

Worldwide sales of mobile phones to end-users reached more than 309 million units in the third quarter of 2008, a 6 per cent increase compared to the third quarter of 2007, according to Gartner. Financial Crisis Hits Mobile Phone Sales as Q3 Shipment Growth Slows

The worldwide mobile phone industry felt the impact of the global financial crisis in the third quarter of 2008 (3Q08) as total handset shipments were down significantly over previous quarters. Mobile phone manufacturers shipped a total of 299.0 million handsets in 3Q08, up 3.2% from last year, and down -0.4% over 2Q08. The third quarter of the year has historically been a ramp-up quarter as manufacturers load their sales channels with handsets in preparation for the holiday season, producing year-over-year growth rates as high as 20% as a result. This year has not witnessed a similar ramp up, largely due to the current economic situation.  more

Sony Ericsson Announces Xperia Launch Date

Sony Ericsson has finally confirmed the launch date for its first Windows Mobile phone - the xperia X1. The phone will be  initially available to consumers in the UK, Germany and Sweden from the 30th Sept and available in other markets across Europe, Asia and Latin America throughout Q4 2008.  more
