Ericsson Goes Green with the WWF
Ericsson and the World Wide Fund for Nature (wwf) Sweden have announced a partnership aimed to encourage the smart use of telecom solutions across industries to reduce global CO2 emissions. SMS used to warn of oil spillages
The Finnish ICT-company, Mermit Business Applications has delivered a text messaging alarm system to the wwf Finland. The new solution is meant to be used by wwf Finland's voluntary troops. In case of an oil tanker disaster in the Baltic Sea region, wwf Finland can now deliver information and action guidelines to more than 3000 volunteers via SMS. Mermit also sponsors all the communication costs that the new system causes. more

Nokia and the environmental and conservation charity, the wwf have signed an agreement to launch a new learning initiative for Nokia employees around the world. The agreement has been signed for an initial term of three years. Nokia, together with wwf, will implement a number of activities enabling employees to learn about environmental matters. Nokia and wwf will cooperate in conducting training workshops and seminars on environmental issues for Nokia employees, and facilitate active dialogue and exchange on environmental issues. more

3D chess coming to Java phones
The 3D technology specialist, Superscape has said that it is developing a wireless 3D version of chess for THQ Wireless, a subsidiary of the videogame publisher, THQ. Chesscapade will be available early this year and will be designed to run on ARM 9 and Java-enabled mobile phones. more
