The new prototype enables eight hours of continuous talk time, three times the capacity of the existing prototype, while weighing the same, 190g. Worlds longest GSM repeater

Namibia's MTC says that it has broken its own world record for setting up the worlds longest GSM repeater link. MTC installed a new repeater at Solitaire, which enabled customers to make and receive calls in that remote part of Namibia from last month. At 64.2 kilometres this installation is the longest repeater link of its kind - making it a new world record. more

Lithuania's Omnitel has made a giant mobile telephone made of used PrePay EXTRA payment cards. The telephone is 7.3 meters high. The records agency "Factum" will register the largest telephone in Lithuania as an attempt to make a Guinness World Record. more

Ringing tone world record set

In a blatant publicity stunt, the UK based virtual mobile operator, Virgin Mobile gathered a group of people together in central London yesterday for a world record cell phone ringing tone attempt. The stunt was to publicise a new ringing tone service from the company and involved 254 people standing together and all having their phones set to ring the "Pearl & Dean" ringing tone. The spokesperson for the Guinness Book of World Records confirmed that a world record had been set, but that no previous attempt had every been made, so it wasn't a particularly difficult record to break. more

Itineris Sets GSM Sales Record
