Cambodian Phone Network Gets Funding for Rural Coverage

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, has organized a US $100 million investment in Cambodian mobile network operator, CamGSM to help strengthen the telecommunications sector and expand access to affordable mobile services in rural areas. IFC is providing up to $40 million from its own account and has mobilized an additional $60 million from ABN AMRO, Cordiant Capital, DnB NOR, and Nordea.  more

Indian Operator Secures Funding to Expand Rural Coverage

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group is providing a US$100 million loan to Indian GSM network operator, Idea Cellular to enable the extension of services to Bihar, one of the few states in India without a well-developed telecommunications network. The loan will also help establish a national long-distance network to meet growing demand for services.  more
