Court Rules Compensation for Former Cingular Wireless Customers

A US court has ruled that some 7,000 Cingular Wireless customers in wisconsin are entitled to refunds from a debt collection agency after it added "illegal fees" to the debts. The collection firm, Afni Inc - a subsidiary of Arrow Financial, added fees equivalent to 15% of the outstanding debts. more

Nokia and Qualcomm Calm their Patent War - Slightly

Qualcomm and Nokia on Friday agreed to consolidate ongoing patent lawsuits in the US state of Delaware with an arbitration currently pending in Los Angeles. While the move should speed up the resolution of the manifold legal battles between the companies, a Nokia spokeswoman warned that the move is unlikely to "resolve the overall licensing negotiations between the companies"  more

T-Mobile and Sprint Nextel Settle Patent Lawsuit

Acacia Research Corp. says that its Contacts Synchronization subsidiary has entered into a license agreement with both T-Mobile USA and Sprint Nextel for rights to practice United States Patent No. 7,072,687, which discloses and claims technologies for synchronizing addresses between one device and another over a wireless communication network, in connection with the settlement of Sprint Nextel's part in the patent infringement lawsuit Civil Action No. 07-C-0250-C, filed in the Western District of wisconsin in May of this year.  more

Nokia Counter-Sues Over Qualcomm Patents

Nokia says that it has responded to the Qualcomm lawsuit filed in the Western District of wisconsin on 2 April, 2007. Nokia says that it remains confident that its products do not infringe either of the two Qualcomm patents-in-suit and asserts that both patents are invalid.

Nokia also filed, in the same court, patent counter assertions against Qualcomm for its infringement of six Nokia implementation patents used in Qualcomm GSM/WCDMA and CDMA2000 chipsets. These six patents are not essential for the practice of standards, however they provide substantial benefits when used. more

Qualcomm Files Additional GSM Patent Infringement Suits Against Nokia

Qualcomm says that it has filed 2 more lawsuits against Nokia. One suit was filed in the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division for infringement of two patents and in the Western District of wisconsin for infringement of three patents. more
