Verizon Announces LTE Deployment Plans - Going Live in 2010
Verizon's CTO, Dick Lynch has outlined the company's plans to roll out an LTE upgrade for its wireless network. Lynch announced that Verizon Wireless has selected Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent as primary network vendors for its initial LTE network deployments. These two vendors are expected to build the underlying infrastructure that will enable Verizon Wireless to become the first wireless company to offer commercial LTE-based service in the United States, starting in 2010. more

At a recent conference, Sriram Viswanathan, Intel vice president and general manager of the WiMAX Program Office, announced that the company is working with Indian service providers and device manufacturers to help bring WiMAX-ready notebooks and netbooks to the India market segment mid-2009. Oulu Innovation has announced that the city of Oulu, Finland is launching a MobileWiMAX-based wireless broadband network to enhance the city's current wireless development and testing platforms. Together with the panOULU and Octopus networks, the planned Mobile WiMAX network will be a part of Oulu's existing wireless network constellation and is expected to be deployed in December 2008. more
