China Mobile selects Gemalto its first Multimedia SIM deployment

Smartcard manufacturer, Gemalto says that it has been selected by China Mobile for its multi-site deployment of Gemalto FullMultimedia SIM cards. The project is taking place in the Guangdong, Shanxi, Beijing, Jiangsu and Shanghai provinces and is the first large-scale multimedia SIM commercial deployment in Asia.  more

Handango Publishes Top Smartphone Software Chart

The software retailer, Handango has published its quarterly sales report, detailing the most popular smartphone and PDA software applications. This most recent version of the Yardstick indicated that three smartphones launched within the past year were among the top ten devices adding software based on revenue. The Motorola Q topped the list, overtaking the Palm Treo 650 which had been in the top spot for more than a year, with the BlackBerry Pearl following close behind. The Palm Treo 680, also a newly-released device, ranked at number ten. more

Nokia Offering Free Mapping Software

Nokia has announced that it is making its smart2go mapping and navigation platform, available free of charge. The platform allows for mapping and routing in over 150 countries and has support for full turn-by-turn satellite navigation in over 30 countries. Nokia plans to start offering the smart2go application for free, from this weekend, for selected Nokia S60 and Windows Mobile 5.0 devices initially and has plans to roll out support for most of the major mobile OS platforms. more
