ZTE Aims to be a Top-5 Phone Manufacturer This Year

China's ZTE is close to breaking into the top-5 of global handset manufacturers after it saw handset shipments jump by 40% in 2008 to reach 45 million units, according to the Taiwan based DigiTimes publication. The company had set itself a target of gaining a top-5 placement by 2011, but did accept that shrinking market share in competitors could bring that date forward.  more

Worldwide Smartphone Sales Reached Its Lowest Growth Rate in Q3 '08

In the third quarter of 2008, the global smartphone market reached its weakest year-on-year growth since Gartner began tracking the industry. Worldwide smartphone sales to end-users totalled 36.5 million units in the third quarter of 2008, an 11.5 per cent increase from the same period in 2007.  more

Motorola Expected to Announce "Google Phone" Plans this Week

The new head of Motorola's mobile phone division, Sanjay Jha has decided that the company should focus the bulk of its efforts on developing phones based on the Google backed Android system. Motorola Reported to be Working on a "Google Phone"

Worldwide Smartphone Sales Grew 16% in Second Quarter of 2008

Worldwide smartphone sales totalled 32.2 million units in the second quarter of 2008, a 15.7 per cent increase from the second quarter of 2007, according to Gartner. In addition, of all mobile device sales, smartphones' share remained stable at 11 per cent.  more
