Bus Ticket Payments by SMS Trials in Italy
The public transport authority in Florence, Italy has launched an SMS based ticketing system in partnership with Ericsson and mobile operators TIM, Vodafone, wind and 3 Italia. The service allows customers of these operators to buy public transport tickets by text message, charging the cost to their mobile account. more

EU calls on mobile operators to continue to improve child safety policies
Half of 10 year-old, 87% of 13 year-old and 95% of 16 year-old children in the EU have a mobile phone, but half of European parents worry mobile phone use might expose their children to sexually and violently explicit images (51%) or bullying by other children (49%), according to a survey. The European Commission has now called on mobile operators to do more to keep children safe while using mobile phones by putting in place all the measures in the voluntary code of conduct, signed by 26 mobile operators in 2007. more

First SMS Worm Detected to Infect Smartphones
Internet security vendor, F-Secure says that it has detected the first known SMS based worm for mobile phones. In its quarterly update on the security issues faced by computer and smartphone users, the company noted that the biggest malware story of 2009 so far has been the Conficker (aka Downadup) worm. It is a classic worm exploiting vulnerabilities in Microsoft windows, of the type that has not been seen in the past few years. more
