Jordan Announces Delayed 3G License Tender

Jordan's telecoms regulator, the TRC has published the tender document for its 3G licenses. The regulator has set a reserve price of JOD25 million (US$35.5 million) per block of 5+5 Mhz spectrum. Bidders will also be able to bid for an optional block of GSM spectrum, enabling any new entrant to provide both 2G and 3G services.  more

Orange Launches a GSM Network in Uganda

France Telecom, through its Orange brand has launched a new network in Uganda. Last October, France Telecom took over the national GSM license held by Hits Telecom Uganda after buying a 53% stake in the firm.  more

Aircom Picks Up Ugandan Network Optimisation Contract

Aircom International has been chosen by Uganda's Warid Telecom to provide network planning and optimisation support for its existing GSM and wimax networks. Warid will use Aircom's ASSET network planning and optimisation tool to enhance the design, management and performance of both networks, providing improved quality of service to customers while significantly reducing network costs through professinal network planning.  more

Motorola Powers the First WiMAX Network in East Malaysia

Malaysia's REDtone has launched East Malaysia's first wimax broadband services, initially covering the Kota Kinabalu business district - and powered by Motorola equipment. Motorola is working with REDtone to supply and deploy wimax 2.3GHz equipment at base sites and install customer premises equipment (CPE) to provide broadband services in major business districts in the first phase of the plan.  more
