Airspan WiMAX Selected for Live Broadcasting in South Africa

­Airspan Networks says that it has won a contract from Multisource Telecoms, a South African wireless communications provider, for a live pilot radio broadcast. Multisource worked with Siemens and the South African Broadcasting Corp. (SABC), the state-owned broadcaster in South Africa, to cover the event.  more

Packet One Buys Dormant WiMAX License in Singapore

­Malaysian based wimax network operator, Packet One has acquired a wimax license in Singapore, after buying the edundant Facilities-based Operator (FBO) license from Singapore based Pacnet. Motorola to Deploy a WiMAX Network in Vancouver

Motorola has announced it has been selected by Craig Wireless Systems to build a new 802.16e wimax network in Vancouver, British Columbia. The system for Vancouver is the first commercial deployment of Motorola's mobile wimax technology in Canada, and follows up on an Industry Canada decision to award a Broadband Radio Service License to Craig Wireless (British Columbia).  more

India Finally Sets 3G License Fees

India's government has finally fixed the price for the country's long delayed 3G license auction. An empowered Group of Ministers (eGoM ) has set the base price for pan-Indian 3G spectrum at Rs 3,500 crore (US$714 million). The reserve price for wimax spectrum has been set at Rs 1,750 crore.  more

Nigeria to Re-Auction WiMAX Licenses

Nigeria's telecoms regulator, the Communications Commission (NCC) has been ordered to cancel the recent wimax licenses and rerun the tender process. The decision came from the President's office following several months of controversy over how the licenses were awarded.  more

US wimax network operator, Clearwire says that it has appointed Huawei as its final supplier for network infrastructure. Clearwire's vendor mix includes Motorola, Samsung, Cisco, Ciena and DragonWave.  more

Denmark Planning Auction of LTE/WiMAX Radio Spectrum

Denmark is to hold a consultation on auctioning off radio spectrum in the 2.5ghz bands. The Ministry for Science, Technology and Innovation (National IT and Telecom Agency) said that 205MHz of spectrum will be auctioned in total: 190MHz in the 2.5GHz band (2500-2690MHz) and 15MHz in the 2010MHz band (2010-2025MHz).  more

Philippines Regulator to Raise BWA Sprectrum Fees

The Philippines telecoms regulator,  the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) is proposing to raise the radio spectrum fees for wimax/BWA network operators using the 2500-2690 megahertz (MHz) band.  more
