Dutch WiMAX Network to Close Down
Dutch wimax network operator, Worldmax has announced that it is closing down its network in Amsterdam from this August. At the end of last year, Worldmax was informed by the Dutch government that it was causing radio interference with satellite stations in Burum, owned by the Ministry of Defense. In the interest of national security the government saw no other option than to put major restrictions on the Worldmax license. After starting court proceedings end of last year, parties have now settled this issue out of court. more

Thailand Aiming for WiMAX License Auction Next February
Thailand's telecoms regulator expects to grant BWA/wimax licenses next February and has set up a committee to study ways of granting the licences, reports The Nation newspaper. The review will run in parallel with the ongoing review of 3G license tender plans. more

SmarTone-Vodafone Confirms LTE Network Upgrade Intent
Hong Kong's SmarTone-Vodafone has announced that it plans to migrate its network towards an LTE platform after it withdrew from last weeks wimax license auction.
