Alcatel-Lucent Demonstrates WiMAX Rev-e Pilot Network in Andalusia
Spanish rural broadband services provider, Iberbanda as deploys its first pilot network using Alcatel-Lucent supplied wimax 802.16-e (Rev-e) wireless broadband technology. A specially equipped bus is being driven around Iberbanda's R&D center in Malaga testing mobile Internet access and other services such as voice over IP or video surveillance. The bus is equipped with video cameras, screens, phones and PCs. more

Intel and the WiMAX Forum Working on Affordable WiMAX Devices for India
At a recent conference, Sriram Viswanathan, Intel vice president and general manager of the wimax Program Office, announced that the company is working with Indian service providers and device manufacturers to help bring wimax-ready notebooks and netbooks to the India market segment mid-2009. Embedded 3G laptops over-hyped: Will account for just 30% of Mobile Broadband subscribers by 2011
The near-term importance of new embedded-3G and embedded-wimax notebooks has been significantly over-estimated, according to a new research report published by Disruptive Analysis. Even in three year's time, laptops with built-in wireless access will only be used by 30% of total, active mobile broadband subscribers globally. External USB modems (or "dongles") will account for 58% - almost twice as many. more

Multi-Mode WiMAX-LTE Chips to Hit Markets in 2009
2009 will see the introduction of a new class of wireless communications chip that features dual-mode support for both wimax and LTE, according to ABI Research. The thrust of demand for such chips comes from those wireless device makers seeking to reduce the number of their SKUs; they will welcome the economies of scale that come from creating devices that support both 4G standards. more
