After plunging in the second half of 2010, the GSM RAN market bounced back (up 38% in 4Q10 over 3Q10), fueled by the start of major 2G capacity upgrades in China and India as well as modernization projects in Europe, according to a report by Infonetics Research. 3G-4G to Account for 30% of Global Wireless Subscriptions by 2013

Alcatel-Lucent Demonstrates WiMAX Rev-e Pilot Network in Andalusia
Spanish rural broadband services provider, Iberbanda as deploys its first pilot network using Alcatel-Lucent supplied wimax 802.16-e (Rev-e) wireless broadband technology. A specially equipped bus is being driven around Iberbanda's R&D center in Malaga testing mobile Internet access and other services such as voice over IP or video surveillance. The bus is equipped with video cameras, screens, phones and PCs. more

Communications market research firm Infonetics Research released the fourth quarter edition of its wimax report this week, noting that the overall wimax equipment and device market held steady in 4Q08 over 3Q08 at $275 million, as the 802.16e mobile wimax segment increased 5% to counter a slight dip in the 802.16d fixed wimax segment. more
