Yota Begins WiMAX Network Deployment in Nicaragua

­Russia based wimax network operator, Yota says that it has begun deploying a new network in Nicaragua. The new entity, Yota de Nicaragua, co-owned by wimax Holding (75%) and a local Nicaraguan company (25%), will build the network and manage the wireless services. During the start-up period, the management team from the Russian Yota has filled key posts in Yota de Nicaragua.  more

Clearwire Confirms Raising $1.56 Billion from Shareholders

Yota reaches operational breakeven point

Russian wimax operator, Yota has announced that it has reached the operational breakeven point. ­This benchmark has been reached by Yota in less than 5 month after the start of the commercial operation of Mobile wimax network in Moscow and St Petersburg. In Ufa the network commercial operation has started in October.  more

Packet One Buys Dormant WiMAX License in Singapore

­Malaysian based wimax network operator, Packet One has acquired a wimax license in Singapore, after buying the edundant Facilities-based Operator (FBO) license from Singapore based Pacnet. Clearwire Launches Test WiMAX Network in Silicon Valley

­US wimax network operator, Clearwire has launched a preview developer network in California's Silicon Valley. The developer network, which is a precursor to commercial service planned for the San Francisco Bay Area in 2010, will cover more than 20 square miles in Santa Clara, Mountain View and parts of downtown Palo Alto, California.  more

WiMAX Delivered the Fastest Rate of Growth in 2Q - Still Has a Lot to Prove

­Starting from a small base, wimax posted the highest rate of growth of all wireless access technologies for the second quarter of 2009. "wimax achieved a whopping 74% growth compared to the previous quarter," says Jake Saunders, vice-president for forecasting at ABI Research. "The installed base of wimax stood at a little over three million subscriptions, but it is a sign that the battle for the 4G market is not an automatic victory for LTE."  more

Digicel Plans Mobile WiMAX Network for Jamaica

­Digicel Jamaica has detailed its plans to roll out a nationwide mobile wimax network, which it aims to launch in the second quarter of next year. At launch, the network will over 60% of the population with coverage in all 14 parishes -- with further roll out continuing across Jamaica driven by customer demand.
