Airspan Wins Expansion WiMAX Contract for Costa Rica

Airspan Networks has announced today that I.C.E. (El Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad) of Costa Rica, the country's main telecommunications operator, has awarded it a follow-on order worth approximately US$12.5 million through its local partner, Datatell, for a network expansion and the deployment of several tens of thousands of CPEs (customer premises equipment).  more

Intel and the WiMAX Forum Working on Affordable WiMAX Devices for India

At a recent conference, Sriram Viswanathan, Intel vice president and general manager of the WiMAX Program Office, announced that the company is working with Indian service providers and device manufacturers to help bring WiMAX-ready notebooks and netbooks to the India market segment mid-2009. Lat-Am WiMAX Subcriber Base to Top 13 Million by 2012

The WiMAX Forum is projecting that more than 13 million consumers in Latin America will be WiMAX users by 2012. Additional data from this WiMAX Forum study estimates that approximately 70 percent of the forecasted WiMAX subscribers by 2012 will utilize mobile and portable WiMAX devices to access broadband Internet services.  more
