Cisco Joins WiMAX Forum Board of Directors

The WiMAX Forum has announced the addition of Cisco as a new member of its board of directors. Sai Subramanian, director of marketing for the broadband wireless business unit of Cisco, will serve as Cisco’s representative on the WiMAX Forum board. Last week, the WiMAX Forum also announced that it had added Tata Communications’ COO Prateek Pashine to its board.  more

WiMAX Forum Reports 13 New Networks Announced in April

The WiMAX Forum has started publishing a monthly report on network developments and statistics. The first issue notes that approximately 13 new WiMAX network deployments were announced in April. Currently, the WiMAX Forum tracks a total of 468 WiMAX deployments in 139 countries.  more

Despite the Naysayers WiMAX Subscriber Revenue Will Boom in 2009

WiMAX Forum Projects Over 800 Million People to Have Access to WiMAX Networks by 2010

The WiMAX Forum has announced that WiMAX Service Providers now offer networks covering 430 million people, or POPS, globally and are on a path to nearly double to 800 million people by end of 2010. In addition, global WiMAX network deployments are approaching 460 in more than 135 countries for fixed, portable, and mobile networks.  more

The WiMAX Forum has selected VeriSign to provide security solutions based on Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). As a trusted Certification Authority, VeriSign is set to perform critical certificate lifecycle functions for WiMAX service providers and device manufacturers including secure key generation and storage as well as certificate issuance, validation, revocation, and renewal.  more

Airspan Wins Expansion WiMAX Contract for Costa Rica

Airspan Networks has announced today that I.C.E. (El Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad) of Costa Rica, the country's main telecommunications operator, has awarded it a follow-on order worth approximately US$12.5 million through its local partner, Datatell, for a network expansion and the deployment of several tens of thousands of CPEs (customer premises equipment).  more
