Despite the Naysayers WiMAX Subscriber Revenue Will Boom in 2009

Nortel has left the WiMAX market and Alcatel-Lucent has "backed off" from WiMAX; and these developments supposedly dealt a blow to Clearwire, which had so far chosen neither as an infrastructure vendor. Commercial WiMAX deployments expected to increase 70-80% in 2008

Maravedis has released a new report which states that the WiMAX global subscriber base increased by 50% in the third quarter, reaching a total of 1,369,000 subscribers generating revenue of US$668 million for the first three quarters of this year.  more

Catalonian Government Plans to Test Mobile WiMAX

Alvarion has announced that the Catalonian government is using its BreezeMAX system to extend broadband services throughout the state. This project will be carried out by the Center for Information and Communication Technologies (CTTI), which has joined the WiMAX Forum. more

Standards are Imperative in Making WiMAX a Reality

MOSCOW, July 17 (Prime-Tass) -- Although many Russians have not yet grown accustomed to GPRS and EDGE for mobile services and Wi-Fi and ADSL for Internet access, all these abbreviations and technologies might be soon replaced by a single one - WiMAX. Several Russian companies already offer WiMAX services and more are planning to roll out WiMAX but how fast this service will develop is not yet clear. more

Algeria Becomes the Arab World's WiMAX pioneer.

WiMAX is commercially available in Algeria, while several operators in many Arab countries have started testing the service. Smart Link Communication (SLC) has deployed WiMAX to provide broadband wireless services in Algeria. SLC's goal is to build a wireless broadband backbone covering the national territory, to develop the metropolitan broadband networks, and to set up an independent new generation telecom infrastructure. On July 25, 2005, SLC launched the first national multi-services network. The deployment of this network makes it possible to develop services based on Broadband Wireless Access (BWA), VoIP, Virtual Private Network (VPN-IP MPLS). Algeria's tough and mountainous terrain makes it an ideal candidate for wireless connectivity solutions. more

Motorola and Intel Jointly Promote WiMAX

Motorola and Intel have announced plans to collaboratively foster greater industry momentum for WiMAX and to advance the use of mobile WiMAX technology, based on the proposed IEEE 802.16e standard, for both fixed and wireless broadband applications. Intel and Motorola plan to collaborate on specification efforts within the WiMAX Forum in an effort to ensure that network and device interoperability issues are addressed adequately. more
