WiMAX Forum Projects Over 800 Million People to Have Access to WiMAX Networks by 2010

The WiMAX Forum has announced that WiMAX Service Providers now offer networks covering 430 million people, or POPS, globally and are on a path to nearly double to 800 million people by end of 2010. In addition, global WiMAX network deployments are approaching 460 in more than 135 countries for fixed, portable, and mobile networks.  more

Intel and the WiMAX Forum Working on Affordable WiMAX Devices for India

At a recent conference, Sriram Viswanathan, Intel vice president and general manager of the WiMAX Program Office, announced that the company is working with Indian service providers and device manufacturers to help bring WiMAX-ready notebooks and netbooks to the India market segment mid-2009. Additional information on specific OEM systems and devices will be announced in the coming months.  more

Mobile WiMAX on the Way Out?

If spectrum auctions and commercial Mobile WiMAX rollouts (compliant to Wave 2 Phase 2 certification) do not take place by 2008, the market scope for Mobile WiMAX on a global basis will be insignificant - claims Frost & Sullivan. The research firm also observes that the technology is facing a range of challenges that are likely to make it unfeasible as a mobile "access" technology.  more
