Alvarion Wins Costa Rican WiMAX Contract

Alvarion  has been awarded a $6 million contract by ICE (Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad), Costa Rica's incumbent telco. WiMAX Forum Plans for Certification at 700Mhz

The WiMAX Forum has announced plans for Mobile WiMAX certification in the 700 MHz frequency band, in addition to the existing 2.3 GHz and 2.5 GHz frequency bands. Development of Taiwanese WiMAX Equipment Makers Taking Off in 2007

According to Taiwan's Market Intelligence Center (MIC), in 2007 Taiwanese WiMAX CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) shipment value is expected to amount to US$159 million, representing large-scale growth in comparison with US$22.6 million in 2006. In the first half of 2007, Taiwanese WiMAX CPE shipment volume reached 125,400 units.  more

WiMAX Poised For Rapid Growth Despite Major Challenges

WiMAX technology is entering a rapid growth phase, as service providers are now able to buy WiMAX Forum-certified equipment, reports In-Stat. Worldwide subscribers are estimated to reach 222,000 in 2006 and are forecasted to grow to 19.7 million by the end of 2010, the high-tech market research firm says. Most of those subscribers are in the Asia/Pacific region. Almost all subscribers are using a fixed service today, with the exception of those in South Korea. more

Agreement Signed to Develop WiBro/OFDMA Products

SK Telecom and Wavesat have announced an agreement to cooperate in the development of WiBro/OFDMA technology for next generation mobile devices. As part of this multi-million dollar agreement, Wavesat will work closely with SK Telecom (SKT) to develop WiBro/OFDMA SOC, system tools and a development kit based on the WiBro 802.16e S-OFDMA profile. The new UMobile (Ultra-Mobile) family of OFDMA WIMAX product portfolio from Wavesat will allow WiMax Wireless system providers (OEMs/ODMs) worldwide to quickly develop and deploy full mobility WiMAX and WiBro solutions. more
