Smartphone sales buck the recession

A report by Infonetics Research is forecasting an 8% drop in the total number of mobile phones sold in 2009, to 1.1 billion worldwide (down from 1.2 billion in 2008), in line with predictions from Nokia, among others. Smartphones were the best-performing segment of the mobile phones market in 2008 and the only segment to show unit and revenue growth in the second half of the year as the world economy entered recession.  more

MACH acquires Roaming Service Bureau (RSB) from WorldCell

Roaming services provider, MACH has acquired the Roaming Service Bureau (RSB) business from WorldCell. MACH says that the acquisition enables it to offer seamless voice and data roaming services to clients ranging from CDMA and GSM/UMTS operators to providers of WiMAX services.  more

Mobile data card sales nearly quadrupling by 2011

Sales of mobile data cards, which enable broadband access in laptops via a service provider's mobile data network, are forecast by Infonetics Research to nearly quadruple between 2007 and 2011, when they will reach $2.9 billion.  more
