Virgin Trains to offer on-board Wi-Fi Service
T-Mobile UK and Virgin Trains today announced the launch of wi-fi internet services for passengers on Pendolino Virgin trains on the West Coast Main Line. The wi-fi HotSpot service will provide a wireless broadband connection throughout the entire journey, including all tunnel sections, at high speeds. The HotSpot service has been rolled out by T-Mobile's solution partner, Nomad Digital. more

AT&T Sees Surge in Wi-Fi Connections
AT&T has reported dramatic growth in the number of wi-fi users and connections. The US firm reported wi-fi connections totaled 10.5 million in the first quarter of 2009 - more than triple the 3.4 million connections in the first quarter of 2008, and more than half AT&T's 20 million total wi-fi connections for all of 2008. more

Desktop Computers are Ceding Ground to Mobile Enabled Laptops
Laptops outstripped desktops for the first time in terms of revenue due to a higher average sale price (ASP). Frost & Sullivan believes another could follow this first in 2009, when laptop unit sales will exceed that of desktops, globally. Analysis from Frost & Sullivan finds that the market earned revenues of US$137.3 billion in 2008 and estimates this to reach US$211.4 billion in 2014. more

BT Wi-Fi usage doubles in a year
Users of wi-fi hotspots operated by the UK's BT clocked up twice the number of minutes online between April and September 2008, than the same period last year. The half year figures, combining BT Openzone and BT FON are 100% up on the same period in 2007 and 57% up on the previous six months. more
