Google Sponsors Free Wi-Fi Service in US Airports

­Nearly fifty US airports are to offer free wi-fi service over the holiday season as part of a sponsorship deal with Google. Additionally, as a result of this project, Burbank and Seattle airports will begin offering airport-wide free wi-fi indefinitely.  more

Wi-Fi Alliance to support Peer to Peer Wi-Fi connectivity

­wi-fi devices will soon be able to connect in a new way that makes it more simple and convenient than ever to do things like print, share and display. The wi-fi Alliance is nearing completion of a new specification to enable wi-fi devices to connect to one another without joining a traditional home, office, or hotspot network. The wi-fi Alliance expects to begin certification for this new specification in mid-2010, and products which achieve the certification will be designated wi-fi CERTIFIED wi-fi Direct.  more

Wi-Fi Alliance Launches Updated Wi-Fi Certified Program

­The wi-fi Alliance says that it has begun product testing for its wi-fi Certified n program, updating its two-year-old wi-fi Certified 802.11n draft 2.0 program. The updated program adds testing for some popular optional features now more widely available in wi-fi equipment.  more

BT Wi-Fi usage doubles in a year

Users of wi-fi hotspots operated by the UK's BT clocked up twice the number of minutes online between April and September 2008, than the same period last year. The half year figures, combining BT Openzone and BT FON are 100% up on the same period in 2007 and 57% up on the previous six months.  more
