China's CCID Consulting has reported that after a period of rapid growth over the past few years, the Chinese mobile handset chips market experienced a conspicuous decline in 2008. Nokia to Integrate Skype VoIP Services into Nokia Phones
Skype and Nokia have announced a partnership that will bring Skype's VoIP platform to the Nokia range of mobile phones. Global Mobile Market to Exceed US$900 Billion in 2008
A report from IDATE says that the world telecom services market is estimated at US$1,365 billion in 2008 - a 4.2% increase over the year before - and is expected to be worth over US$1,416 billion in 2009. With a total turnover estimated at US$742.2 billion in 2008, mobile services account for 54% of the telecom services market and single handedly deliver all of the sector's growth. But the annual growth rate has dropped from more than 12% in 2007 to 8% in 2008. more

Nokia Ceases Production of its Only WiMAX Device
Nokia has stopped producing its only WiMAX device, the N810 WiMax Edition, after just a few months of sales. The handset was originally shown last April as an upgrade of the existing N810 which relied on wi-fi for its connection, and launched in October. more
