Airport Communter Buses to Get Free Wi-Fi Service

A fleet of buses running between Luton Airport and London, UK have been fitted out with free wi-fi services for passengers. The fleet of buses, operated by Arriva has been equipped with Icomera's Moovbox M Series mobile broadband gateway that provides wi-fi connectivity on the move with actual download speeds in excess of two megabits per second. The Green Line vehicles also leverage the Moovbox for GPS-based location, enabling Arriva staff to monitor and track the fleet's vehicles in real-time.  more

DragonWave Wins Italian WiMAX Backhaul Contract

Ethernet backhaul vendor, DragonWave has announced that Italy's Linkem will deploy its Horizon Compact radios for backhaul in their new WiMAX network. Linkem provides both nationwide wi-fi Hotspot services and Wireless DSL services in Italy. At the beginning of 2008 the company consolidated this position by acquiring 13 regional WiMAX licenses to provide mobile broadband coverage to 80% of the Italian population.  more

iPass Mobile Broadband Network Expands to Scandinavia

wi-fi roaming provider, iPass announced a partnership agreement with 3 Scandinavia, part of the Hutchison Whampoa 3 Group of companies, which will provide iPass customers with access to its 3G network in Sweden - including mobile data in-bundle roaming into Denmark. Under the terms of the agreement, iPass will integrate 3's HSDPA and HSUPA network into its iPass Mobile Office service, which unifies remote and mobile connectivity across more than 160 countries.  more

Modest Growth in the Communications Silicon Market Despite U.S. Economic Worries

The Linley Group has published a report which is predicting a steady growth rate of 5 percent per year in the wired communications semiconductor market segment up to 2012. The firm says that despite recent economic turbulence in the United States, 2008 year-to-date sales of wired communications ASSPs have been relatively strong, and the revenue outlook for a number of product segments, including network processors and Ethernet devices, remains positive.  more

Arriva Deploys Free Wi-Fi on Danish Trains

Arriva Scandinavia, a railway operator in Denmark has deployed in-carriage wi-fi services which rely on a HSDPA based backhaul connection. Arriva has equipped an initial twenty-nine trains serving commuters traveling between Aarhus, Thisted and Tƒžnder in Jutland, and will provide free wi-fi hotspot services to passengers.  more
