Microsoft's Older Windows Mobile OS Still Selling Faster than its New Replacement
The older Windows Mobile smartphone platform actually managed to outsell its replacement, Windows Phone 7 in the USA, according to sales data released by NPD Group. At the same time, Android smartphone operating system (OS) significantly increased its market-share lead by 9 percentage points, since the prior quarter, to reach 53 percent of the U.S. consumer smartphone market. more

Worldwide Smartphone Market Grows 89.5% in Third Quarter As New Devices Launch
The worldwide smartphone market reached a new milestone during the third quarter of 2010 (3Q10), with the leading vendors posting double- or even triple-digit year-over-year growth. According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, vendors shipped a total of 81.1 million units, up 89.5% from the 42.8 million units shipped during 3Q09. For the first three quarters of 2010, vendors have shipped a total of 200.6 million units, up 67.6% from the 119.6 million units shipped during the first three quarters of 2009. more
