Palm Pre Stands to Shake Up Smart Phone Status Quo

Palm's new Pre smart phone holds strong potential for robust sales growth, and may have a major influence on other platforms as well as the technology supply chain, according to iSuppli Corp. Palm Misses Sales Forecasts on Late Deliveries of Treo Pro

Palm has announced its preliminary results for its third quarter of fiscal year 2009, which ended Feb. 27, 2009. The company says that it expects to report revenues for the third quarter of fiscal year 2009 in the range of US$85 million to US$90 million - compared to average estimates of around US$155 million from analysts.  more

Despite Recession - US Smartphone Market Still Growing

According to The NPD Group, consumer sales of smartphones to U.S. consumers represented 23 percent of all handset sales in the fourth quarter (Q4) 2008 compared to just 12 percent in Q4 2007. Led by the release of Apple's iPhone 3G at $199, the average price for a smartphone fell 23 percent from $216 in Q4 2007 to $167 last year.  more
