South Korean Agency Sues Nokia, Motorola Over 3G Patents
South Korea's state-run telecommunications research institute, The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) says that it is suing more than 20 mobile phone makers, including Nokia and Motorola, over patent violations. more

Qualcomm and Broadcom Wave a Paper and Declare "Peace For Our Time"
The acrimonious patent battle between Qualcomm and Broadcom is finally over. The two firms have entered into a settlement and multi-year patent agreement, which will result in the dismissal with prejudice of all litigation between the companies, including all patent infringement claims in the International Trade Commission and U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, as well as the withdrawal by Broadcom of its complaints to the European Commission and the Korea Fair Trade Commission. more

InterDigital Settles Mobile Phone Patent Dispute with Samsung
InterDigital says that it has settled an ongoing patent dispute with Samsung - and entered into a binding term sheet with the company covering Samsung's sale of 2G products, as well as the 3G patent licensing disputes for Samsung's sales of products through 2012. more

Qualcomm and Taiwan based Cheng Uei Precision Industry, (Foxlink) have entered into a module/modem card patent license agreement. Nokia and Huawei Sign Patents Agreement

Qualcomm and Broadcom Back in Court Over Patents
Qualcomm and Broadcom were back in court today as the two companies battled over an appeal to last years ruling that blocked Qualcomm from importing wcdma chips. Last December, U.S. District Judge James Selna ruled that Qualcomm would have to stop importing some wcdma chips, but could continue to sell some chips which infringed Broadcom patents until January 2009. more

InterDigital Gets Setback in Samsung Lawsuit
InterDigital has had a setback in its bid to block the import of Samsung mobile phones into the USA while it argues a legal patent lawsuit against the company. Evidentiary hearing in the United States International Trade Commission (USITC) investigation started yesterday, where the company tried to argue that Samsung has violated laws by engaging in unfair trade practices by selling for importation, importing into the United States, and selling after importation certain 3G handsets and components that infringe five of InterDigital's patents. more

Nokia Wins One Round in Ongoing Qualcomm Battle
Nokia has won one, of many rounds of the ongoing patent battle with Qualcomm after the USA's International Trade Commission (ITC) said that it will not review Administrative Law Judge Paul J. Luckern's initial determination that Nokia's GSM/GPRS/EDGE-only handsets do not infringe three Qualcomm patents. The action relates to 2G products and is not related to Nokia's wcdma or "3G" products that are at issue in other cases. more

Qualcomm Fails to Block Nokia Handset Imports into the USA
Qualcomm has lost an attempt to bar the importing of Nokia handsets into the USA after it had claimed that they infringed on its patents. A complaint was filed by Qualcomm against Nokia with the USA's International Trade Commission (ITC) in June 2006. The judge found no infringement or violation by Nokia of the three asserted Qualcomm patents. In addition, it was determined that patent '473 was found to be invalid. more
