According to research of the Taipei-based Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC), shipment volumes of the Taiwanese basic/feature phone industry in the first quarter of 2009 has been estimated at 10.21 million units. Sony Ericsson Tops Nokia in Taiwan in Sales Value
Sony Ericsson has managed to overtake Nokia is terms of handset sales value in Taiwan, although it still trails slightly in terms of numbers of phones sold. A report from Taiwan's Chinese language Economic Daily News, citing sources in the retail trade said that Sony Ericsson took 31.6% of the sales value. This compared to 30.8% of the cash value for Nokia. more

Taiwanese Mobile Phone Market Expected to Reach 7.1 Million Units in 2007
According to MIC (Market Intelligence Center), an ICT industry research institute based in Taipei, the scale of the Taiwanese mobile phone market is expected to reach 7.1 million units for the full-year 2007, down 2% in comparison with 2006. Sales volume in the second quarter of 2007 is expected to reach 1.7 million units. Due to the continuing demand of the NCC (National Communications Commission) for mobile operators to cut their 2G voice call rates, mobile operators will face challenges in bolstering their revenues. Therefore, in 2007 they will focus their effort on accelerating popularity of wcdma and HSDPA services, creating the conditions for expanded use of mobile Internet access, as well as increasing sales of value-added services other than SMS and ringback tones. more
