Huawei and ZTE cause major shakeup in mobile infrastructure market

ZTE Aims to be a Top-5 Phone Manufacturer This Year

China's ZTE is close to breaking into the top-5 of global handset manufacturers after it saw handset shipments jump by 40% in 2008 to reach 45 million units, according to the Taiwan based DigiTimes publication. The company had set itself a target of gaining a top-5 placement by 2011, but did accept that shrinking market share in competitors could bring that date forward.  more

Huawei delivers China Unicom' s first 3G network in Zhengzhou

Huawei says that it has deployed China' s first wcdma commercial network for China Unicom in Zhengzhou, Henan province, China. In China Unicom' s Phase One UMTS tender, Huawei was awarded the largest market share of over 30 percent based on number of transceiver to be deployed.  more

3G-4G to Account for 30% of Global Wireless Subscriptions by 2013

At the end of 2008, only 11% of worldwide wireless subscriptions were 3G. By the end of 2013, the percentage of 3G and 4G subscriptions will reach 30%, reports In-Stat. This trend is reflected in fourth quarter 2008 wireless infrastructure contract awards.  more

ZTE, Other 3G Device Providers Play Active Role in Deploying 3G Networks in China

CCID, a research firm in China disclosed recently in an industry report which predicted that the rapid deployment of 3G networks in China will eventually result in the creation of about 660,000 3G subscriber lines by Q3 this year. Global Mobile Market to Exceed US$900 Billion in 2008

A report from IDATE says that the world telecom services market is estimated at US$1,365 billion in 2008 - a 4.2% increase over the year before - and is expected to be worth over US$1,416 billion in 2009. With a total turnover estimated at US$742.2 billion in 2008, mobile services account for 54% of the telecom services market and single handedly deliver all of the sector's growth. But the annual growth rate has dropped from more than 12% in 2007 to 8% in 2008.  more

Five Firms Win Multi-Billion Dollar Chinese 3G Tender

Huawei, Motorola and Ericsson are reported to have been the biggest winners in the latest wcdma infrastructure tender from China Unicom, industry sources have told the South China Morning Post. The firm believed to have issued a tender to cover 55 cities in 30 provinces - the first stage in a rollout to cover 282 cities with a total CAPEX of around US$11 billion during 2009.  more
