Chinese Believe WCDMA Phones Superior to CDMA and TD-SCDMA Models

China Unicom Expanding 3G Coverage to 168 Cities in August

China Unicom is to expand the commercial trials of its new wcdma based network to a further 168 cities next month. The operator, which started 3G services in May, is already testing its 3G network in 100 cities.  more

China Unicom Starts Testing 3G Network in 55 Cities

China Unicom says that it has started trials of its wcdma network - covering 55 cities, the official Xinhua News Agency has reported. The network is expected to expand to 284 cities by September and a full commercial launch is due by the end of this year.  more

Motorola Wins Chinese 3G Contract

Motorola says that it has won a W-CDMA contract with China Unicom for an undisclosed amount. Under the contract, Motorola will provide China Unicom with W-CDMA radio access network equipment, packet switched core network (PS core), and 2G/3G interoperability functions that will enable the integration of China Unicom's GSM and W-CDMA networks.  more

Qiao Xing Mobile to Boost 3G Phone Development Staff

China's Qiao Xing Mobile says that it plans to accelerate its 3G mobile phone R&D by adding 200 engineers to its existing R&D team in Beijing in 2009. China Unicom Selects Alcatel-Lucent to Deploy 3G Networks in 14 Provinces

Huawei delivers China Unicom' s first 3G network in Zhengzhou

Huawei says that it has deployed China' s first wcdma commercial network for China Unicom in Zhengzhou, Henan province, China. In China Unicom' s Phase One UMTS tender, Huawei was awarded the largest market share of over 30 percent based on number of transceiver to be deployed.  more
