Qiao Xing Mobile to Boost 3G Phone Development Staff
China's Qiao Xing Mobile says that it plans to accelerate its 3G mobile phone R&D by adding 200 engineers to its existing R&D team in Beijing in 2009. China Unicom Confirms in Talks with Apple of iPhone Sales
China Unicom's chairman Chang Xiaobing has confirmed that the company is in talks with Apple over an option to sell the iPhone handset in the country. He did not elaborate on the talks, citing confidentiality agreements. more

Nokia Siemens Networks Wins Chinese Contracts Worth $1.1 Billion
China Mobile and China Unicom have separately signed agreements to purchase 2G and 3G mobile equipments and services from Nokia Siemens Networks during 2009. Under the framework agreements Nokia Siemens Networks will roll out wcdma networks for China Unicom in 11 provinces across China. In addition, it will provide China Mobile with TD-SCDMA and GSM networks. more

iPhone in China: China Mobile or China Unicom?

reported in 2007. While many expected to see the two shake hands, no deal has
yet been announced and it is now rumoured that Apple will partner with China

Nortel Completes LTE-TDD Wireless Demo in China
Nortel says that it has successfully completed the first end-to-end video streaming session using a Time Division Duplex (TDD)-based LTE network, working with commercial grade LTE Base Station and device prototypes in China. Five Firms Win Multi-Billion Dollar Chinese 3G Tender
Huawei, Motorola and Ericsson are reported to have been the biggest winners in the latest wcdma infrastructure tender from China Unicom, industry sources have told the South China Morning Post. The firm believed to have issued a tender to cover 55 cities in 30 provinces - the first stage in a rollout to cover 282 cities with a total CAPEX of around US$11 billion during 2009. more

China Unicom Aims to Offer 3G Services in 55 Cities By July
China Unicom says that it aniticpates launching its wcdma network in 55 Chinese cities by the middle of this year - and expand coverage to 280 cities by the end of the year. This compares with China Telecom's plans to cover 100 cities with its CDMA 3G network within three months, and China Mobile's plans to cover 238 cities by the end of this year. more

China Telecom Aims for 3G Launch Within Three Months
China Telecom, which recently acquired the CDMA network from China Unicom plans to launch its own 3G upgraded service in 100 cities within the next three months, as it tries to catch up with China Mobile's already operational 3G network. more
