Vodafone Offers National Roaming onto CDMA Network

Vodafone Czech Republic has inked a national roaming agreement with the CDMA network, MobilKom to enable its 3G data users to roam between the two networks. Vodafone is offering a dual-mode USB modem for laptops that will switch between wcdma and CDMA networks are required.  more

Telecom New Zealand to Shut-Down its CDMA Network

Telecom New Zealand has announced plans to shut-down its CDMA network as it continues to migrate customers over to its recently deployed wcdma platform. The company said that CDMA roaming would cease at the end of this October, and the 3G network will close down at the end of this November. The 2G based CDMA network will close in 2012.  more

Chinese Believe WCDMA Phones Superior to CDMA and TD-SCDMA Models

Over half (58%) of Chinese customers believe that wcdma phones are the best 3G network in the country, followed by CDMA2000 (14.1%) and just 4.3% saying that TD-SCDMA handsets are the best.  more

WCDMA equipment up 21% in 2Q, driven by 3G rollouts and device upgrades

Ericsson has increased its macrocell RAN equipment revenue in 2Q09 with a boost from China Unicom's W-CDMA deployments, retaining its top market share spot reports Infonetics Research. However, Huawei and ZTE also increased their RAN equipment revenue at the same time.  more

Shipment of Taiwan's Basic/Feature Phone Industry Exceeds Forecasts

According to research of the Taipei-based Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC), shipment volumes of the Taiwanese basic/feature phone industry in the first quarter of 2009 has been estimated at 10.21 million units. Even though shipment volume declined sequentially in the first quarter, it was still higher than the 9.42 million units originally forecast.  more

Mongolia Gets HSPA Network Upgrade

Mongolian operator MobiCom has launched a HSPA upgrade, with the network supplied by Ericsson. The launch enables MobiCom to introduce mobile broadband services to its subscribers across Mongolia, starting in the capital Ulaanbaatar where about 40 percent of the country's 3 million inhabitants live.  more

Top-five handset OEM signs first Coolteq deal
