Nortel Completes LTE-TDD Wireless Demo in China

Nortel says that it has successfully completed the first end-to-end video streaming session using a Time Division Duplex (TDD)-based LTE network, working with commercial grade LTE Base Station and device prototypes in China. Study Finds Interference Between Femtocells and Maco Network Not a Problem

Femtocell trade group, The Femto Forum has published the results of a study which studied problems with network interference caused by the close proximity of femtocells and macrocells. The study found that femtocells have the potential to deliver an order of magnitude more capacity than the macro network alone when used in dense deployments, even when occupying the same radio channel as the macrocells. It also identified numerous technological solutions that mitigate potential interference with the macro network to remove barriers to wide-scale deployment and maximize the capacity benefits.  more

UK Operators Sharing 3G Spectrum for Mobile TV Trials

Orange and T-Mobile UK have announced they intend to jointly pilot a new mobile TV and multimedia broadcast service in London using NextWave Wireless' 3G MBMS based TDtv solution. The pilot, scheduled for the second half of 2008, is designed to demonstrate how the cost of providing mobile TV services can be significantly reduced when mobile operators share widely-available unpaired 3G spectrum and a standards-based TDtv broadcast network.  more

LTE Standard Now Approved says GSA

GSA - the Global mobile Suppliers Association has welcomed confirmation by the standards body, the 3GPP that the LTE Terrestrial Radio Access Network technology specifications have been approved and are now under change control, leading to their inclusion in the forthcoming 3GPP Release 8.  more
