Ericsson Wins Philippines 3G Upgrade Contract

Ericsson has won a contract to upgrade the Philippine GSM network, SMART with wcdma infrastructure. With this deployment, SMART is the first operator in Southeast Asia to launch a HSPA network in the 850MHz band. The network uses lower frequencies, which improve the quality of the radio signals, extending coverage and enabling rapid deployment.  more

ZTE Deploying a 3G Network in East Timor

China's ZTE is working with Timor-Leste (East Timor) based mobile network, Timor Telecom to deploy a wcdma based network. Citing a statement from the Chinese embassy, MacauHub reported that the contract was actually signed last May and the network deployment should be completed next August.  more

Telecom New Zealand Outlines 3G Network Launch Details

Telecom New Zealand has revealed more of the services coming on its wcdma based XT Mobile network including changes to mobile plan charging, and a range of handset and content announcements. At a media briefing, Group CEO Paul Reynolds said Telecom is changing the game for mobile customers by having fewer plans that are less complicated and take away the guesswork.  more
