Turkcell Secures Export Financing for Ericsson 3G Kit Purchase
Turkish mobile network operator, Turkcell has announced the signing of a US$285 million loan agreement to buy 3G network infrastructure from Ericsson. The Board of Directors said that they have authorised up to US$750 million of export financing for network expenditure. more

China Confirms 3G License Awards

Indian Network "Soft-Launches" 3G Coverage in Delhi
India finally launched a 3G network today as state-controlled operator, Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Limited (MTNL) launched a wcdma network in the capital city, Delhi. The company is only offering a "soft-launch" though, and coverage is limited to the main business and political districts, Connaught Place, Sanchar Bhawan, Rajaji Marg, India Gate, Pragati Maidan, Delhi Gate, and Minto Road. more

China Unicom Plans 3G Launch by Year-End
China Unicom expects to start a trial wcdma network in seven cities by the end of this year - said Chang Xiaobing, chairman and CEO of the mobile network operator. Sources within the company suggest that the seven cities will be Shanghai, Shenzhen, Foshan, Liuzhou, Zhengzhou, Baoding and Wuxi, with about 100 W-CDMA base stations in each city. more

India's BSNL to Launch 3G Network in Jan 2009
India's state owned mobile operator, BSNL will launch its 3G network in the north-eastern states and Chennai by January 2009, Communications and IT Minister A Raja has announced. The second state owned network to have a 3G license, MTNL is still on target to launch its 3G network in Delhi and Mumbai. more

India to Allow Foreign Cos to Bid for 3G Licenses
India's government has said that it will allow foreign companies to bid for the forthcoming 3G licenses on their own, but will have to find a local partner when they launch services. The government restricts foreign ownership of a telecoms operator to 74% of the firm. more

China Mobile Expanding its 3G Trial to More Cities
China Mobile Communications Corp, the parent company of Hong Kong listed China Mobile is planning to expand its TD-SCDMA 3G trials to more cities. The operator is currently trialling the network in eight cities, Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xiamen and Qinhuangdao. more
