IFC Supports Development of New Mobile Network in the Palestinian Territories

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is investing US$30 million in wataniya Palestine, as part of a US$85 million loan, to help build a mobile-phone network in the Palestinian West Bank. wataniya Palestine is a joint venture of the Palestine Investment Fund and wataniya Telecom, which is majority-owned by Qatar's Qtel.  more

GSM Network gets World Bank Loan

The International Finance Corporation, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, has announced the signing of a US$20 million loan to wataniya Telecom Maldives which is building a GSM network in the island nation. In addition, IFC mobilized a US$7 million parallel loan from the OPEC Fund for International Development, an inter-governmental development finance institution, which seeks to promote cooperation between OPEC member states and other developing countries. more
