Nearly Half of US Motorists Use Mobile Phones While Driving
Nearly half of US drivers between ages 18 and 24 say they have sent a text message, instant message or e-mail while driving, according to a new survey by FindLaw. The survey found that 48 percent of drivers between the ages of 18 and 24, and more than a quarter (27 percent) of drivers 25 to 34, admit to texting while behind the wheel. Seventeen percent of all adults surveyed say they have texted while driving. more

Nine of 10 Americans Would Support New Laws to Ban Driving While Texting
Nine out of ten (89 percent) American adults believe that sending text messages or emails while driving is distracting, dangerous, and should be outlawed, according to a new survey commissioned by mobile messaging service Pinger and conducted by Harris Interactive. Similar numbers (91 percent) of adults thought that drivers distracted by sending text messages or mobile email were as dangerous as drivers who had a couple of drinks. more

Legislators Barring Electronic Distractions
Since 1997, when North Dakota state senators pioneered a ban on the use of electronic devices while official deliberations were underway, the parliamentary rules of more and more legislatures require cell phones, computers and other electronic distractions to be turned off or left at the door. more
