Grameenphone to Raise $65 Million in Stock Market Floatation

Who are the Fastest Growing Operators in Asia-Pacific?

No fewer than 16 companies added more than 5 million customers over the course of the twelve months ended June 07. China Mobile heads the list with a massive 58.6 million customers - as many as the next three operators put together, and then some. PTA Pakistan June 2007 Customer Numbers

In the first quarter of 2007 Telenor trumped all of its competitors to lead the net additions race in Pakistan's fast-growing mobile market. However, in the second quarter, Telenor slipped into fourth place behind all of its major competitors despite the fact that it had the third best quarter in its nine quarter history. Pakistan Telecom's Ufone emerged as the front runner in Q2 2007 with 2.4m net additions to its base taking the total to 14m. It was followed by market leader Mobilink with 1.8m, new Singtel associate Warid Telecom with 1.7m and then Telenor with 1.6m. In total a record 7.6m new customers were added in Pakistan in the quarter, taking the total count to over 63m and the penetration rate to 37%. In the process both Telenor and Warid exceeded the 10m customer mark, finishing the period with 10.70m and 10.62m customers, respectively. more

Pakistan - 10 Million New Customers in 2007

Almost 2.8m new mobile customers joined the ranks in Pakistan in the month of April - the second highest total ever recorded in the market, behind October 2006. Monthly proportionate growth stayed above 5% by a whisker, after 5.1% in March, taking the total customer base in the market to 58.4m and penetration to 34.7% from 33.0% a month earlier. A total of 10.0m new customers were added in the first four months of 2007, these being shared almost equally between the market's four largest operators.  more

Mediocre December for Pakistan Doesn't Spoil Impressive 2006

After a remarkable year of growth, Pakistan's mobile market finished 2006 with a total of 48.3m customers, equivalent to a penetration rate of 28.8%, according to the latest data from the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA). A total of 26m net new customers adopted the mobile services of one of Pakistan's six operators during the year, giving the market an equally impressive proportionate growth rate of 123% between December 2005 and December 2006. more

PTA Pakistan September 2006 Customer Numbers

Another 2.33m net new mobile customers joined the fast expanding ranks in Pakistan in the month of September, taking the country's total subscriber base to over 41.5m. With average monthly net additions for the 12 months to 30th September 2006 standing at 2.05m, customer base growth for year amounted to 145.4%, down from 167.5% for the year to 30th June. more
