Vodafone Group Reports Slight Drop in Quarterly Revenues

Vodafone "Keyboard" Converts Any Television into a Web Browser

­vodafone today announced the launch of the vodafone Webbox, that enables internet access though a customer's existing television set, just by plugging in a keyboard. The Webbox has been developed specifically for customers in emerging markets, where technology and cost barriers often exclude many from enjoying affordable, ready internet access at home or in the workplace. A 14 x 25cm QWERTY keyboard, the Webbox uses standard RCA connectors to plug into the television.  more

Vodacom to Launch M-PESA in South Africa

South Africa's Vodacom is to launch the mobile money service, M-PESA in the country, in cooperation with local banking group, Nedbank. The bank has been working with the banking regulator to ensure that the initiative will meet all requirements set out by the South African Reserve Bank.  more

Vodacom South Africa to Offer Mobile Money Transfers

vodafone has announced that it is bringing the mobile money service, M-PESA to South Africa, to be deployed by Vodacom and its South African banking partner. With approximately 26 million people in South Africa without official bank accounts, M-PESA will enable millions of mobile phone subscribers who have access to a mobile phone, but do not have or have only limited access to a bank account, to send and receive money via their mobile phones.  more

Vodafone Q2 Revenues Rise by 9.6% to $17.7 Billion

vodafone has reported that its Q2 revenues were up 9.3% to £10.74 billion (US$17.7 billion), including the positive impact of exchange rate movements of 8.6 percentage points and a 3.1 percentage point benefit from merger and acquisition activity, primarily attributable to the additional stake in Vodacom.  more

Huawei Launches Vodafone Co-Developed Base Station for Rural Areas

Huawei says that it has launched a 2G base station (BTS) designed for use in rural communities in developing markets. The “EasyGSM BTS” is an All IP-based compact BTS, and was co-designed and developed in collaboration with vodafone in the two firms’ joint Radio Mobile Innovation Centre based in Madrid, Spain.  more

Vodafone Net Profits Drops on Impairment Charges

vodafone has reported a 15.6% rise in full year revenues to reach £41.02 billion (US$62.47 billion), although profits dropped to £3.08 billion (US$4.7 billion) from £6.76 billion (US$10.3 billion) a year ago, largely due to a write down of the Spanish and Turkish networks. Ignoring the impairment charges, the groups adjusted operating profit was up 16.7% to £11.8 billion. Group EBITDA up 10.0% to £14.5 billion.  more
