Vodafone Germany Testing Huawei Supplied LTE Equipment
vodafone Germany and Huawei are to start joint test gauging the performance of LTE in the Digital Dividend radio spectrum - 790-862MHz. The test will be based on Huawei' s end-to-end solutions and both parties will form a joint working group for conducting the test. more

EU calls on mobile operators to continue to improve child safety policies
Half of 10 year-old, 87% of 13 year-old and 95% of 16 year-old children in the EU have a mobile phone, but half of European parents worry mobile phone use might expose their children to sexually and violently explicit images (51%) or bullying by other children (49%), according to a survey. The European Commission has now called on mobile operators to do more to keep children safe while using mobile phones by putting in place all the measures in the voluntary code of conduct, signed by 26 mobile operators in 2007. more

Softbank to Report $748 Million Loss on CDO Debt Obligations
Japan's Softbank Corp, which operates the country's smallest mobile network says that it will report a JPY 75 billion (US$748 million) loss on CDO's which were used to insure against defaults on the debt it took out to buy vodafone's Japanese operations. more

A new study from ABI Research finds that the worldwide combined OPEX and CAPEX savings from active infrastructure sharing could amount to as much as $60 billion over the next five year period. Verizon Announces LTE Deployment Plans - Going Live in 2010
Verizon's CTO, Dick Lynch has outlined the company's plans to roll out an LTE upgrade for its wireless network. Lynch announced that Verizon Wireless has selected Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent as primary network vendors for its initial LTE network deployments. These two vendors are expected to build the underlying infrastructure that will enable Verizon Wireless to become the first wireless company to offer commercial LTE-based service in the United States, starting in 2010. more
