IMImobile takes over Music2You service from Nokia Siemens Networks

Mobile services provider, IMImobile announced last month that it had taken control of the Music2You (M2Y) service previously provided by Nokia Siemens Networks. Under the M2Y brand, Nokia Siemens Networks provided full-track music download and subscription services to telecom operators and media companies, vodafone in India, AOL in Germany and Akado in Russia.  more

European Commission Welcoms Romania's Lower Termination Rates

The European Commission says that it has welcomed the Romanian telecoms regulator's move to bring its regulation of mobile termination rates in line with the forthcoming Commission Recommendation. In the meantime, the Commission also called on the regulator to align the mobile termination rates charged by the third and fourth mobile operators in Romania with those allowed for the two largest operators. A letter from The Commission acknowledged the reasonably low level of rates for the two largest operators (5.03 eurocents per minute) and said that in the absence of objective cost differences, this interim rate should also be applied to the other operators as soon as possible.  more

Vodafone Planning "Hundreds" of UK Job Cuts

vodafone is reported to be about to announce several hundred job cuts in its UK division on Tuesday. The report was carried by Bloomberg News who cited two people with direct knowledge of the plans who did not want to be identified.  more

Azingo Wins Vodafone Contract for Mobile Linux Phone Applications

vodafone has awarded a contract to mobile OS firm, Azingo to develop applications for mobile phones based on the Linux Operating System. Both Azingo and vodafone are core members of the LiMo Foundation, a consortium working on a handset software platform based upon Mobile Linux for use by the whole mobile industry.  more

Telefonica Gets a Debt Ratings Upgrade

Fitch Ratings has upgraded Telefonica and its subsidiary O2's Long-term Issuer Default ratings (IDRs) to 'A-'(A minus) from 'BBB+', respectively. The agency has simultaneously upgraded Telefonica Finance USA's preference shares to 'BBB+' from 'BBB'. Telefonica's short term rating of F2 is affirmed.  more
