Idea Cellular Gets Approval for Tower Separation

India's Idea Cellular has received approval from its shareholders to split off its tower assets into a separate company, Idea Cellular Towers Infrastructure. Private Equity Group Invests in Indian Mobile Operator

The private equity group, Providence Equity Partners has taken a twenty percent stake in Aditya Birla Telecom (ABTL) - a wholly-owned subsidiary of India's Idea Cellular - for US$640 million. ABTL owns the telecom mobile license for the Bihar service area and will hold a 16 per cent stake in Indus Towers, the company's tower subsidiary which is co-owned by Vodafone Essar and Bharti Airtel.  more

Vodafone, Bharti and Idea Confirm Merging Indian Tower Ops

As has been widely rumoured over the past few weeks, India's Vodafone Essar, Bharti Infratel and Idea Cellular have confirmed plans to merge their tower operations into a single company. The new company, Indus Towers will provide passive infrastructure services in India to all operators on a non-discriminatory basis.  more
