Software to improve Vodafone's network planning
Wireless Valley Communications has announced that Vodafone Egypt will use its SitePlanner and EnterprisePlanner products to develop and manage expansion of its cellular network. To improve and enhance GSM coverage for its customers, Vodafone Egypt will be supplementing its outdoor tower grid with in-building networks in locations where there is high concentration of use. Instead of relying on time-consuming and expensive site survey methods, Vodafone will use Wireless Valley's SitePlanner software to design, implement and manage the in-building networks. more

Vodafone interested in 3G license in Egypt
Vodafone Egypt held a press conference last week to outline their development plans for their network in the country. The press conference featured Technology Director at Vodafone Egypt, Eng. Mohamed Henna, who certified that the number of mobile phone relay antennas has increased to 2300 antennas operating through 5 central exchanges and covering 99.5% of Egypt's residential area. He added that US$122 million have been invested last year alone on upgrading and development. more

Vodafone to improve the backbone
Vodafone Egypt is to start rebuilding its corporate communication infrastructure using 3Com eXpandable Resilient Networking (XRN) technology and Gigabit Ethernet switches. 3Com secured the contract following a competitive tender that involved a number of well-known networking vendors. Vodafone Egypt's new infrastructure features an entirely new design based on the 3Com Switch 4007, 3Com SuperStack 3 Switch 4924 and SuperStack 3 Switch 4400. Vodafone Egypt will use the XRN Interconnect Kit in conjunction with its two 3Com SuperStack 3 Switch 4924s to interconnect the two switches and create a distributed fabric core which will improve network performance and availability while, crucially, enhancing network redundancy. Vodafone Egypt will also use 3Com Network Supervisor to manage the network. 3Com will continue to work closely with local channel partners Tritech and Perma technology in delivering and supporting the solution. more

Vodafone offers two SIM's on one phone number
Vodafone Egypt is launching a service that will allow two separate SIM cards to work on one telephone line under the commercial name of "SIM2". Contract customers would now receive calls on only one number on any of the two handsets they are using . The need for such new service appeared when users of vehicle lines found themselves over busied answering other GSM calls while driving or having to change the SIM card from one handset to the other. more
