Russian Bailiff Defers Sale on VimpleCom Sales
Russia's bailiff has reportedly delayed the sale of Telenor's shares in vimplecom for an unspecified period. Citing a press conference, the Norwegian business daily Dagens Naeringsliv said that Artur Parfyonchikov, head for the bailiff's office in Moscow needed more time to study the court documents which lead to the shares being seized originally. more

Telenor strongly objects to statement from the Russian Bailiff
Telenor has, unsurprisingly said that it strongly opposes any plans the Russian Bailiff's office may have of selling Telenor's VimpelCom shares. "The enforcment of the claim of US$1.72 billion is based on an incorrect court decision that has no merit and should not take place," said Jan Edvard Thygesen, EVP and head of Telenor's Central and Eastern European operations. more

Farimex Launches Attack Against Telenor in Ukraine
According to a statement from Telenor, Farimex, reputed to be attacking Telenor's investments in the Russian mobile operator VimpelCom, is also behind an investigation launched by the Anti-Monopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMC) against Telenor and Kyivstar. Telenor says that it was officially notified of the commenced investigation earlier this month. more

Telenor Q1 Net Profit Drops by 65%
Norway's Telenor Group has reported that its first-quarter profits slumped by 65% to NOK1.62 billion (US$250 million) from NOK 4.57 billion (US$700 million) a year ago. Revenues rose by 6.8% though to reach NOK24.78 billion (US$3.8 billion) according to a statement from the company. However, EBITDA rose to NOK 7.84 billion (US$1.2 billion) before foreign exchange losses. more

Telenor and Alfa Group Nearing a Solution to their Long-Running Disputes
Norway's Telenor and Russia's Alfa Group are reported to be close to agreeing an asset swap which will finally conclude their long running legal and commercial battles. According to The Moscow Times, Alfa will hand over its entire 43.5 percent stake in Ukraine's Kyivstar to Telenor - in exchange for twelve percent of the voting shares in Russian operator, vimplecom. more

Telenor Ups Pressure on Ukraine Operator Dispute
Following the ongoing shareholder dispute at the Ukrainian operator, Kyivstar - Telenor announced yesterday that it will deconsolidate Kyivstar and to present Telenor's interests in the company in one line, as an investment in the 2006 Annual Report. Telenor owns 56.5% of Kyivstar, and will still own the stake - it is just changing how it accounts for the stake in its financial statements. more
