Farimex Launches Attack Against Telenor in Ukraine

According to a statement from Telenor, Farimex, reputed to be attacking Telenor's investments in the Russian mobile operator vimpelcom, is also behind an investigation launched by the Anti-Monopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMC) against Telenor and Kyivstar. Telenor says that it was officially notified of the commenced investigation earlier this month.  more

Russia's Altimo Denies Reports of Selling Vimplecom Stake

Russia's Altimo Group has rejected local media reports and denied that it would have to sell part of its stake in Russian mobile operator, Vimplecom in order to meet its banking obligations. Several Russian Oligarchs have been forced to sell some of their assets in recent weeks as the stock market value of the assets fell below levels accepted as security for bank loans.  more

Telenor and Alfa Group Nearing a Solution to their Long-Running Disputes

Norway's Telenor and Russia's Alfa Group are reported to be close to agreeing an asset swap which will finally conclude their long running legal and commercial battles. According to The Moscow Times, Alfa will hand over its entire 43.5 percent stake in Ukraine's Kyivstar to Telenor - in exchange for twelve percent of the voting shares in Russian operator, Vimplecom.  more

VimpelCom Q2 Profits Up By 31% to $470 Million

Russia based vimpelcom has reported a 30.9% jump in its second quarter profit to US$470 million compared to a year ago - but down on the US$601 million reported in the first quarter of this year. Revenues rose by 52% to $2.61 billion, while operating income before depreciation and amortisation (OIBDA) increased by 36.3% to $1.22 billion.  more

Vimpelcom Increases Shareholding in Kazakhstan Operator

vimpelcom's Kazakhstan subsidiary, KaR-Tel says that it has been granted radio spectrum in the GSM1800 band to compliment its existing GSM900 license. The company did not say how much it has paid for the license.  more
