Russian Bailiffs to Sell Telenor's Stake in VimpelCom
Russian bailiffs have passed an order to auction off Telenor's shares in Russian mobile network operator, vimpelcom to cover a disputed US$1.7 billion fine. Responding to the news, Telenor said that it has not received any other information from the Bailiff's office than what has been posted on the Bailiff's home page. more

Farimex Launches Attack Against Telenor in Ukraine
According to a statement from Telenor, Farimex, reputed to be attacking Telenor's investments in the Russian mobile operator vimpelcom, is also behind an investigation launched by the Anti-Monopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMC) against Telenor and Kyivstar. Telenor says that it was officially notified of the commenced investigation earlier this month. more

Alfa Held in Contempt by US Court - Telenor's VimpelCom Shares Arrested in Russia
Telenor has issued a statement announcing that a US federal court in New York yesterday held four Alfa Group companies in contempt for the second time for their failure to comply with the court's orders confirming the Kyivstar arbitration award. Shortly after the hearing ended, Telenor heard rumours that a Russian bailiff acting on behalf of Farimex Product, had arrested all of Telenor's shares in Russian mobile operator vimpelcom. This was confirmed this morning. more

Russia's Altimo Denies Reports of Selling Vimplecom Stake
Russia's Altimo Group has rejected local media reports and denied that it would have to sell part of its stake in Russian mobile operator, Vimplecom in order to meet its banking obligations. Several Russian Oligarchs have been forced to sell some of their assets in recent weeks as the stock market value of the assets fell below levels accepted as security for bank loans. more

VimpelCom Confirms Cambodia Investment
Russia's vimpelcom has confirmed earlier news reports that it has acquired a 90% stake in the Cambodian company Sotelco, which holds a GSM 900/1800 license and related frequencies for the territory of Cambodia. The transaction was made through the purchase of 90% of SotelcoÃ's parent company, Atlas Trade for US$28 million from vimpelcomÃ's largest shareholder Altimo (which owns 44% of Vimplecom). The remaining 10% of Atlas will stay with a local partner, a Cambodian entrepreneur. more

Telenor Takes Action to Stop Russian $3.8 Billion Lawsuit
Telenor says that it has requested the US Federal District Court in New York to stop Farimex from pursuing a lawsuit against Telenor in Khanty-Mansiysk in Russia. On Friday, 20 June, Telenor filed a lawsuit against Alfa Group affiliates Farimex Products, Altimo Holdings & Investments and Eco Telecom, requesting the Court to compel Farimex to arbitrate its claim in an arbitration proceeding commenced by Eco Telecom in March 2008. more

Russia's Altimo has filed - via a subsidiary - a claim against Norway's Telenor for US$1 billion in damages with an international arbitration tribunal in Geneva. This claim is for alleged breached by Telenor of a Shareholders Agreement relating to Russian mobile company vimpelcom signed by Eco and Telenor to ensure fair and effective management of the assets of vimpelcom. more
